The Start of Another Major Development in District Four

This is The Sphinx/Fiji sustainable live/work development across from the 8th & Corinth DART Rail Station. It includes market-rate for-sale townhomes, office space, apartments, retail, and senior housing. The development is located in the 8th & Corinth area of Oak Cliff (map).

On a post from Shawn Williams' Dallas South News, writer Shemetra Thomas titled it "This is what Economic Development Looks Like..." I couldn't agree more.

I have written about this development a few times before. It is another link in the chain of a series of developments in the Corinth/Lancaster corridor, along with the now complete Crest Shopping Center redevelopment project and the Lancaster Road VA-area project.

This one is special to me because at the zoning level, we spent a lot of time wrangling over it and making sure that the developers used high-quality materials that would stand the test of time. It's also located in an area in that is in dire need of such a development. There were a lot of moving pieces in this project, and while zoning was being worked out Mayor Pro Tem Caraway made sure the various funding sources sought by the developers were supported and in place.  It is the definition of a public-private partnership.

This is what it looked like before:

and this is what's here (picture from Dallas South News):

Here are some pictures of what's coming in the future:

There's more to come, stay tuned.
